Many people in the community were connected in some way to Sarah, and followed her incredible story over the past few years. The one day ice hockey tournament will honor Sarah, by raising funds for children that will go directly to the leukemia and oncology department at SickKids and will go towards youth scholarships for sports and recreational programs. It will also bring plenty of awareness for Sarah’s Drive for Hope, which encourages the need for blood and bone marrow donors.

MEET THE CHARITIES

SickKids is Canada's most research-intensive children’s hospital and the largest centre dedicated to improving children's health in the country. Every day at SickKids, staff are tackling the greatest challenges in child health, from children facing cancer to failing hearts and syndromes yet to be diagnosed The list goes on. The need is enormous. Every year, more than 100,000 children come to SickKids for life-saving care and the number continues to grow. Thanks in large part to donations SickKids is already one of the world’s leading health-care institutions. With continued support, we can continue to push the frontiers of what is possible in care, research and learning. Donations to Skate For Sarah will be directed specifically towards oncology research and leukemia. Every dollar counts. Every supporter makes a difference for kids.
The JCC is a not for profit that believes in the culture of philanthropy and the power of giving back. As part of our JCC Community Cares initiative, we want people to know that their gift improves lives.

The experience of playing sports or being part of a team is one that has tremendous potential to shape and impact the life of a young child. Proceeds from the event will go towards the JCC Chai Sports Scholarship Fund, where the goal is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play regardless of their family’s financial situation. Our scholarship fund has been set-up to help support children from families that are new to Canada, low-income families and children with special needs, so they can experience the benefits of participating in sports leagues and recreational programs.
Camp Trillium was created in 1984, with a simple vision: to reach children with cancer by providing them and their families with fun and enriching recreational opportunities. We began our mission with one camp, 28 campers and 18 staff in London. Since then, we have grown across Ontario, and run over 50 programs each year.
