Many people in the community were connected in some way to Sarah, an have followed her incredible story over the past few years. The one day ice hockey  tournament will honor Sarah, by raising funds for children dealing with pediatric disability and illness, and for youth scholarships for sports and recreational programs. It will also bring plenty of awareness for Sarah’s Drive for Hope, which encourages the need for blood and bone marrow donors.

The tournament features divisions for youth and adults, and is for all levels of play. There are no restrictions for any players that play in other house leagues or Rep teams.

The event also includes entertainment, family activities, and lots to do outside of hockey.

The JCC is a not for profit that believes in the culture of philanthropy and the power of giving back. As part of our JCC Community Cares initiative, we want people to know that their gift improves lives.

The experience of playing sports or being part of a team is one that has tremendous potential to shape and impact the life of a young child. Proceeds from the event will go towards the JCC Chai Sports Scholarship Fund, where the goal is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to play regardless of their family’s financial situation. Our scholarship fund has been set-up to help support children from families that are new to Canada, low-income families and children with special needs, so they can experience the benefits of participating in sports leagues and recreational programs.
One match is a part of Canadian Blood Services. Canadian patients depend on them to manage safe, secure and cost-effective blood systems. They bring quality to every aspect of their work - from collecting, testing and manufacturing blood, blood components and stem cells to knowledge creation and dissemination to conducting ground-breaking research.

According to the Canadian Blood Services’ One Match Stem Cell and Marrow Network, at any given time, there are close to 1,000 patients in Canada searching for an unrelated donor for a stem cell transplant. There is also an urgent need for blood, as children with cancer often require up to five donations of blood each week.
